Fujifilm X100S

New camera! Been wanting to get a compact (kinda) camera to fit into my sling bag for the occasional personal shoot. Definitely don't want to lug the 5D3 in my bag. Not to mention lenses, I'm sure to bring the 16-35mm 2.8 and 50mm 1.4

Picked the X100S over the Sony RX1. The RX1 is just too expensive, it's even more expensive than a 6D

Here are some photos with the X100S , all unprocessed unless stated.

I always read manuals for new cameras, the X100S is no different. Oh, only this time I'm reading it in Japanese 日本語

Like how the flare comes out of the above picture!

So far

Need more time to play with this small little monster. Image quality looks good so far! Pictures are all in JPEG. As of writing this, I wasn't using LR4 Release Candidate (4.4) version where X100S RAW files were supported. Finally able to read the RAW files, will leave that for next time

Handling

Compact, what can you say? I don't have any rangefinder experiences, so this is something new. It's light enough for my shaky hands (asian and smoker I guess)

When using the X100S, somehow it forces me to really think of the composition of the photos while looking through the OVF, because of the parallax error of the lens. You start to think of the outcome before taking the shot

Battery

Not impressive, but you could last a whole day while travelling with it. Not a DSLR, not expecting much

Equipment Update

Letting go of the 5D2 and planning to get myself a 6D for travels and also as the secondary/backup camera. Tried my sister-in-law's husband's 6D and like it! It's just like a 5D2, same number of AF points (9 - with centre high sensitivity cross-point), but with faster focusing compared to the 5D2's dinosaur focus speed

Can't wait to get my hands on one and try the WiFi and GPS

When I bought the X100S, I also got myself another Speedlite 600EX-RT to complete the lighting setup. Had a softbox in the to-buy list but forgot all about it during my visit to the shop
